Prosecution Wrapping Up Peterson Case Friday

State's Attorney James Glasgow said he's putting the finishing touches on his prosecution of Drew Peterson Friday morning.

It took 15 days of testimony but prosecutors finally got a witness to tell the jury Drew Peterson allegedly killed his third wife, Kathleen Savio. That witness, the Rev. Neil Schori, was the only called Thursday, and several hours after he left the stand, Will County State's Attorney James Glasgow said he was wrapping his case up the following morning. "The prosecution never rests but we should be closing our case tomorrow," said Glasgow. And the prosecution is going out on a high note, as they presented their most powerful witness so far in Schori. The Naperville pastor told of meeting with Peterson's fourth wife, Stacy Peterson, on the patio of a Bolingbrook Starbucks the morning of Aug. 31, 2007. Stacy had called the day before and …

Groups to Boycott Starbucks Over Stances on Gay Rights, Guns

Separate boycotts criticize coffee chain's stances on national issues.

Some religious and political groups are urging Starbucks customers to grab their morning coffee elsewhere in light of the company's stance on gay marriage and its policy on guns. USA Christian Ministries, a group boycotting Starbucks for its recent support of gay marriage in the state of Washington, said in a news release that the coffee chain's decision has angered Christians. "Christians are upset with Starbucks for turning against God," Steven Andrew, president of USA Christian Ministries, said. The group hopes that, with full support from Christians, Starbucks, which operates several locations in Bolingbrook, could lose up to 80 percent of its business. Starbucks joined Microsoft and Nike in publicly supporting gay marriage in a …

I'm trying to figure out why this is even news. If you go to the USA Christian Ministries website direct from the article you will quickly find out these people are not Christian at all but just a bunch of misguided people who believe that God only loves the USA and we should only vote for people that are Christian. This is just as dumb as the Million Moms, whose membership does not even come …   more ›

New Strip Mall With Coffee Shop Planned Along Weber Road

Coffee shop would anchor a new 7,400 square-foot retail center to be built in front of the Home Depot.

A new multi-tenant retail building is planned along Weber Road thanks to action taken by the Bolingbrook village board Tuesday evening. The 7,400 square-foot building will sit in front of the Home Depot, located at 105 N. Weber Rd., and is expected to include a space for a yet-to-be announced restaurant. According to village documents, the carry-out restaurant will be a 1,805 square-foot coffee shop. Essentially, the building would sit between Steak N' Shake and Cattleman's Steakhouse.  One of Bolingbrook's four Starbucks Coffee sits just a few blocks down at 261 S. Weber Rd. Across the street from that coffee shop sits Caribou Coffee Company at 266 S. Weber Rd. A Dunkin' Donuts also operates near the proposed coffee shop at 1255 W. …

Poll: Would You Drink Beer in Starbucks?

Starbucks has announced it will begin serving beer and win in select Chicago-area Starbucks before the end of 2012. What do you think?

Starbucks, the Seattle-based coffee company, announced last week it would begin adding beer and wine, along with small plates, to its menu in select Chicago-area stores.  The new offerings, according to the Huffington Post, are aimed to increase afternoon and evening sales at select Starbucks where boozy offerings "fit the neighborhood." The model—selling wine and beer after 2 p.m.—has successfully translated into evening sales growth at the shops where it's been tried out, the report said. Bolingbrook currently has four Starbucks locations: According to the report, between five to seven stores will be selected as test stores by the end of 2012. No word yet on if any of those stores are in Bolingbrook or the surrounding area. But we ask …

Eggs Inc! The owner, Gus, and his staff make the place, and their food is top notch. Whenever we go there, Gus always says hello, and stops over to visit (if it's not too busy). Our servers are always friendly, and they all remember and say hello, even if they are not serving us. The west side of Bolingbrook was in need of a great breakfast place like this, and I'm thrilled that we finally got it…   more ›

If you're like me - diabetic - you can go to Starbucks or Dunkin' Donuts and get a great coffee treat. Some of the concoctions are a good sweet replacement for things like milk shakes which I can no longer have. They have Splenda, sugar free flavored syrups and either cream or half and half (which belive it or not are lower in sugars/carbs than 1%, 2%, whole, or skim milk). Great way to have a …   more ›

Munch Madness: Second Round of the Route 53 Region

You've heard of March Madness, right? Well, this is Munch Madness—Bolingbrook Patch's attempt to find the best restaurant in all of the village.

The votes have been tallied and the second round of Munch Madness is underway. Munch Madness runs along the same lines as the much-hyped March Madness except it uses Bolingbrook restaurants instead of college basketball squads.  Now we're not egotistical enough to tell you what restaurants you do and don't like. That's why we're letting you decide which eateries take home Sweet 16, Elite Eight, Final Four and Bolingbrook Champion honors. You eat there. You vote. You decide which restaurant could be the champ. To read more about how it works, click HERE. To see the complete bracket, with updated results from the first round, click HERE.  To vote, simply leave a comment in the comments section below telling us which restaurants you want to …
