Super Bowl 2013: Will You Cheer For the Ravens or the 49ers?

The Baltimore Ravens and San Francisco 49ers will compete in the 2013 Super Bowl in New Orleans Sunday.

Will you root for the Baltimore Ravens or the San Fransico 49ers in the 2013 Super Bowl?  A new map created by Facebook's Data Science team shows the 49ers fan base stretches from the California coast well into the Midwest before pockets of Ravens fans begin to crop up. The analysis of 35 million Facebook users who have "liked" a National Football League team fan page paints a colorful picture of allegiances, hometown favorites and rivalries in the NFL. The graphics, done down to a county level, show more Northern California support for the Niners than the Oakland Raiders during the NFL regular season, but the Raiders' have a fan base that stretches into Nevada and Oregon. And the Winner Is: Bolingbrook Woman Takes Home the Prize in Bears/Packers Contest

Tracy Adams said a coworker helped her come up with her guess for the final score in Sunday's NFC matchup.

A Bolingbrook resident proved to be the most sports-savvy reader in Bolingbrook Patch and Romeoville Patch’s “guess the score” contest on Sunday.  Winner Tracy Adams guessed that the Bears would beat the Packers by one point, with a guess of 21-20, in Sunday’s NFC title game. Unfortunately for heartbroken Chicago fans, she may not have had the outcome exactly right, but she came the closest—within a mere eight points—to guessing the final score of Packers 21-Bears 14.  Adams said she’s a longtime Bears fan.  “I moved to Chicago area in early ’80s, just in time to be a part of the Bears '85 season, (and) have been a fan ever since,” she said. But Adams took the advice of a coworker when making her pick for the big game.  “(I) saw the …

Bolingbrook Football a Force With Ivlow's Guidance

Raiders head coach and police liaison at the school melds careers to guide youngsters.

John Ivlow has known tremendous success on the football field. A record-setting running back while at Plainfield High School, Ivlow reached the peak of his profession when he won a Super Bowl ring with the Denver Broncos, the last of three stops in the professional ranks  that also included a stint with the Chicago Bears. After retiring from football, Ivlow became a police officer. He tackled a dual profession when he joined the Bolingbrook High School staff as an assistant football coach. And then ... "It fell into my lap," Ivlow said of his ascension to head football coach the following year, in the fall of 2002. Indeed, there were breaks along the way. "I wasn't even the top choice," said Ivlow, 40. "One of the things that hurt (my …
