Taqueria Muniz in Bolingbrook: Not Your Average Tacos

Taqueria Muniz of Bolingbrook brings gourmet south-of-the-border fare without the trumpets.

Taqueria Muniz is not quite your typical taco place. The restaurant at 133 S. Weber Road opened for business in Oct. 2010 just down the plaza from the Goodwill. The guitar that co-owner and chef Luis Muniz used to play to pass the time in the early days when there weren’t too many customers now rests on a shelf beside the straws and Sweet n’ Low. “There’s a difference between me and just a regular cook,” said Muniz, 22, a 2009 graduate of Le Cordon Bleu College of Culinary Arts in Chicago that has been in the restaurant business almost half his life.  The Muniz family—mom, dad, four sisters and one brother—also own Taqueria Muniz of Aurora, which has been open for 10 years. Luis and sister Diana, 27, operate the Bolingbrook location. Diana…

@Lucy, just a little over a month. @Melissa, no problem. Indio's Taueria need to be your next feature. I recommend. @Taco Junkie. Yeah it's location was bad, but a hard to find place & good food made the search worth it. I 've good things about Fire It Up. Indio's Taqueria is new, but their food is real good.   more ›

Taqueria Muniz: Not Your Average Tacos

Taqueria Muniz of Bolingbrook brings gourmet south-of-the-border fare without the trumpets.

A quick Google search of the words “Bolingbrook” and “taco” pulls up almost a dozen restaurants in town, and Taqueria Muniz is not among them. At least, not yet. The restaurant at 133 S. Weber Road, just down the plaza from the Goodwill, opened for business last October—the Monday before Halloween, to be exact. But aside from it's newness to town, there's another reason Taqueria Muniz may not be listed in the Google searcht—it’s not quite your typical taco place, that’s why. The guitar that co-owner and chef Luis Muniz used to play to pass the time in the early days when there weren’t too many customers now rests on a shelf beside the straws and Sweet n’ Low. “There’s a difference between me and just a regular cook,” said Muniz, 22, a 2009…

Bolingbrook's Newest Taco Joint to Open Today

The new Zacatacos, located near the intersection of Boughton Road and Route 53, will open today.

When it comes to Mexican food, Bolingbrook seemingly has the market covered. In fact, if you traveled the village's arterial streets, you'd probably have more than two dozen taco or burrito joints to choose from. But for the sake of selection, Zacatacos is throwing its name in the hat—or should we say sombrero—to the taco market beginning today. Zacatacos, located at 109 W. Boughton Rd., will open its doors today at 10 a.m., according to a flyer on the restaurant's door. Zacatacos will takeover the building that used to house PizzeriaZia. The restaurant chain, which has four area locations—two in Chicago and two in Berwyn—will offer a wide array of their specialty charbroiled tacos, burritos and other Mexican dishes. For a link to the …

Taco Diner Ready to Fill Vacancy at Weber and Boughton

A unique and upscale Mexican food experience is promised in the former home of Bacci Pizzeria.

Naperville resident Ilda Rodriguez and her family are almost ready to open the doors of Taco Diner at Boughton and Weber roads, next door to the Jewel-Osco. Many Bolingbrook residents likely know the location best as the former home of Bacci Pizzeria. But once they walk through the Taco Diner's doors, all similarities to that restaurant will vanish. "We have completely redone everything," Rodriguez said. "We redid the kitchen, plumbing, floor — everything from the ground up is brand new." The diner is open, spacious and furnished with bistro tables and chairs, set atop a new grouted tile floor. With ornate lighting fixtures and an earth tone paint scheme, Taco Diner is cozy and boasts a classy ambiance, which was one of  Rodriguez's goal …

Have tried Taco Diner for an individual sit-down lunch & for take-out. The food is fresh, fresh, fresh, plentiful & tasty! I really like their quesadillas, which are not greasy at all. Their guacamole actually has chunks of avocado in it & is delicious. Some folks have said they think Taco Diner is a bit expensive, but I think the food is worth the price. Why not try it & see what you think? They…   more ›
