Valley View School District 365U teachers are still working off of an expired teachers' contract, one employee told Patch. The contract for Valley View School District 365U teachers expired in August. A proposed contract was voted down overwhelmingly in September based on salary, higher insurance premiums and changes to the daily schedule, according to the Bugle. Of the 1,800 certified and classified members, 92 percent rejected the contract. One teacher aide from Valley View said that as of Feb. 20, she had not received another contract to vote on. Everyone involved has indicated a desire to keep the process short, positive and productive. Special meeting scheduled for Saturday.
The Valley View Board of Education will hold a special executive session meeting Saturday morning to discuss collective bargaining with the teachers’ union. Board president Steve Quigley said the discussion will center around next year’s contract with the American Federation of Teachers Local 604. “This is just so we can talk about what we’re going to do going forward,” Quigley said, adding negotiations have yet to begin. “We haven’t even sat down with them.” The current AFT contract expires June 30. Quigley said the meeting is unrelated to discussions with members of the transportation union.
