All campuses cancelled classes Thursday.
All classes are cancelled in Valley View School District Thursday due to widespread flooding, according to the district. All after-school activities are also cancelled. Police: Parents shouldn't relax curfew rules on Bolingbrook teens' big night.
Prom night for Bolingbrook High School students is fast approaching. Prom 2013 will take place April 26 from 6 p.m. to 11 p.m. The theme is "Midnight in Paris." Prom tickets are $70 each and are on sale through April 24. Prom night can be a time for good, clean fun. But for some teens, it’s a night to throw caution — and rules about things like drinking and sex — out the window. To prevent risky prom-night behavior like unsafe sex, drinking or drugs, now is not the time to relax parental rules, according to local police. Kindergarten enrollment in the Valley View School District is now open, according to the district's website. Parents and guadians should enroll their children at the Valley View Enrollment office, 755 Dalhart Ave., Romeoville, from 8 am to 3:30 pm Monday to Friday. Students need to be 5 years old before Sept. 1 to be eligile for next year's kindergarten class. According to the district, the following items are needed for registration: Enrollment forms are available at the District Administration Center, 755 Dalhart Ave., Romeoville, or by going to the enrollment website.

Valley View School District received a slightly lower score on this year's Illinois State Board of Education Financial Profile, but avoided dropping down into the "Financial Early Warning" category. The district is still in the "Financial Review" category, along with 190 other Illinois school districts. The "Review" category denotes districts in ISBE's second-highest financial health category. Those districts receive a limited financial review by ISBE, but are monitored for potential financial downward trends. Meanwhile, nearby Plainfield School District 202 slipped a notch, falling into the "Financial Early Watch" category, while Troy School District 30-C stayed in the "Financial Recognition" category. Valley View School District 365U once again proved its students are among the best spellers in Will County by placing four 8th grade spellers in the top 13 at the annual Will County Spelling Bee Thursday night. Defending County champion Kim Belser of Humphrey Middle School, who competed in the Scripps National Spelling Bee in Washington, D.C. last year, finished fourth at this year’s county bee, missing on the word “striated” in the 17th round. Lukancic’s Elizabeth Zahorick tied for 5th place, dropping out in the 15th round on the word “nonplus.” Rory Richards of A. Vito Martinez tied for 8th place, missing “junta” in round nine. Too few school board members in attendance meant Tuesday's meeting has to be rescheduled for Nov. 20.
Because of a lack of a quorum, Tuesday night’s Valley View School District 365U Board of Education meeting was canceled and re-scheduled for Tuesday, Nov. 20. The meeting, which will be held at the Administration Center, 755 Dalhart Ave. in Romeoville. Executive session will begin at 6:30. The public session of the meeting will begin at 7 p.m. A tentative 2012 tax levy is on the agenda for the meeting. The 2012 proposed tax levy is a 4.21 percent increase from the 2011 extension. The Valley View School District 365U will vote Monday whether to reimburse James Mitchem $65,658 for tuition for his doctorate degree.
The superintendent of Valley View School District 365U could receive almost $66,000 in tuition reimbursement from the district if the school board approves an amendment to his contract Monday night. The $65,658 amount for James Mitchem is not a salary increase and “represents the reasonable value of tuition reimbursement for the doctoral degree on an after-tax basis,” according to school board documents. Mitchem "shall be paid a bonus of $65,658 for the 2011‐2012 school year, payable on or before Aug. 1." Mitchem submitted a request for the tuition reimbursement, which has been reviewed by the school board president. According to the district’s 2011 salary compensation report, Mitchem receives a base salary of $199,000. The board will …

Editor's Note: The following is a release from the Valley View School District. Valley View School District 365U will change the start time of the public portion of its Board of Education meetings to 7 p.m. when the new fiscal year begins July 1. Board members will still convene in public session briefly at 6:30 p.m. before moving into executive session. Should additional executive session time be required, the board will go back into executive session following the public portion of the meeting. The first meeting with the new 7 p.m. start time will be Monday, July 16.
