Communities with a large segment of senior citizens or high median incomes tend to have the highest percentage mortgage-free homes, according to Crain’s Chicago Business. According to the Crain's analysis, of Bolingbrook's 18,789 owner-occupied units, 10.1 percent are mortgage-free. Prices were up, but home sales in Bolingbrook were slightly down from December 2012 to December 2011, real estate statistics show.
Single-family home sales were down in Bolingbrook during December from last year, but median home prices saw a big jump, according to the Mainstreet Organization of Realtors (MORe). Fifty-six detached, single-family homes were sold in December, slightly down from the 58 sold in Dec. 2011. But median home prices jumped from $134,000 in Dec. 2011 to $162,750 in Dec. 2012, an increase of 21.5%. Fifty-nine homes were sold in November, at a median price of $170,000. The market for homes in suburbs throughout Will and Kendall counties saw growth in December, MORe reported. MORe gets its statistics from Midwest Real Estate Data. Minooka saw the largest percent increase, with 71.4 percent more homes sold in December 2012 than in December 2011. …
