The village of Bolingbrook, along with four other Will County communities, have filed a lawsuit against Illinois American Water to take control of a water pipeline through eminent domain.
After making two offers to purchase a water pipeline from Illinois American Water, the Northern Will County Water Agency has filed a lawsuit to take control of the Bedford Park pipeline through eminent domain. The Northern Will County Water Agency includes Bolingbrook, Lemont, Woodridge, Romeoville and Homer Glen. Officials in Lemont, Woodridge and Romeoville have said only small portions of their communities are served by Illinois American Water and would be affected. The water agency claims the pipeline takeover would prevent Illinois American Water from continually hiking residents' water bills. IAW claims the increases in water rates are the result of increases from other agencies, and the Northern Will County Water Agency is wasting…

Officials of the Illinois American Water and the Northern Will County Water Agency clashed, again, at a meeting of the water agency Monday.
illinois American Water vs. the Northern Will County Water Agency. The two sides clashed, again, at a Northern Will County Water Agency meeting Monday. Homer Glen Mayor Jim Daley asked those with a tie to IAW in the audience to identify themselves. He cut off an IAW rep during the "Questions from the Public" section, saying "this was not a commercial" and "we've heard this all before." Both sides accused the other of misinforming the public. Bolingbrook Mayor Claar said the IAW had been furthering its "lies" and "falsehoods" for years. Prior to the meeting, IAW distributed flyers urging residents in Homer Glen to attend the meeting to "ask for answers." The IAW said the water agency would more likely raise water rates than lower them and…

Prosecutors: Michael Buhrman, who allegedly stole a car at gunpoint in May, told a woman of his plan to flee to Chile.
A Coal City man accused in the May carjacking of a woman in Woodridge claimed he would flee to Chile to avoid the charges, according to prosecutors. Buhrman was indicted in May on charges of aggravated vehicular hijacking, vehicular hijacking and unlawful use of a weapon. Officials from the five area municipalities that have begun the process of creating a joint water agency are irate over the private water supplier's recent telephone campaign and new website.
Updated at 5:59 a.m. Dec. 20 As five area municipalities move closer to attempting a takeover of an Illinois American Water pipeline, the company hit back, launching a new website and conducting a telephone survey of residents of the communities. On Monday night, Lemont Mayor Brian Reaves confirmed that he and many other residents received the phone call last week. The survey was so misleading, he said, that he is consulting attorneys about filing a legal injunction against the company. "It starts off asking whether residents are happy with water rates and eventually asks questions about [me and the resident's political party affiliation]," said Reaves, who claims the calls are politically motivated. We pay more money in Bolingbrook for water than most other suburbs. The only advantage is that we have lake water far out from the city. I've seen municipalities do the best with water systems, but its difficult when they do not own the entire distribution system and we are are still stuck buying the lake water at full price. I'm glad they are trying to address this, but we need to be very …   more ›
