No Illusion Here: Bolingbrook Gymnasts Open Their Hearts & Cabinets to Feed the Less Fortunate

Youngsters ranging in age from 6 months to 17 years old have been collecting items in a food drive to keep the shelves stocked at the DuPage County Food Pantry.

Floor exercise, still rings and pommel horse.

I know what you're thinking: Gymnastics.

Now, think outside the box like so many of the youngsters who participate on the Bolingbrook Park District Illusions Gymnastics team, their families and supporters. The team has worked to score a perfect 10 this week in a competition more meaningful than anything that takes place in the gym.

The gymnasts—who range in age from 6 months to 17 years old—have been collecting items in a food drive to keep the shelves of the DuPage County Food Pantry full.

"We work in conjunction with DuPage Township," said Maureen Franzen, recreaction supervisor/gymnastics, with the Bolingbrook Park District. "We give the opportunity to all of our participants to open their hearts and their cabinets.

"One never knows when they will be hit with hard times."

Franzen said 490 children are enrolled in the Bolingbrook Park District gymnastics program. The Illusions food drive wraps up on Saturday, Nov. 23.
