Court Orders More Psych Tests For Local Man Accused of Killing Mom

Michael Marzo is charged with killing his mother at her Bolingbrook home Dec. 2.

The 23-year-old man accused of  in their home Dec. 2 has been ordered to undergo further evaluation by the Illinois Department of Public Health after a court-ordered psychologist said he was unfit to stand trial, according to TribLocal.

in the Will County Adult Detention Facility and faces one count of first-degree murder with intent to kill or do great bodily harm and two counts of first-degree murder with a strong probability of death or great bodily harm, in the death of his mother, Shirley Marzo, 53.

Police found Shirley Marzo dead in the bathroom of her home on the 500 block of Nassau Avenue after responding to a 911 call regarding a domestic dispute between a mother and her son.

In a press release,  Lt. Michael Rompa said a female caller told dispatchers her mother was dead. Officers responding to the home discovered Shirley Marzo in the bathroom with apparent stab wounds to her back.

Police found Michael Marzo later that day in Chenoa, about 85 miles south of Bolingbrook, and took him into custody.

Marzo’s next court appearance is set for April 3.
