Swisheroo: Bolingbrook Police Put Full-Court Press on After Incident at Hometown Pantry

An 18-year-old man is arrested and charged with attempted robbery and aggravated battery following an incident on Sunday at Hometown Pantry, police report.

His attempt at robbery failed.

And his attempt to escape from police went the way of an errant jumpshot clanging hard off the rim at the Bolingbrook Park District basketball courts.

Angel C. Velez, 18, of 226 Bedford, Bolingbrook, was arrested by Bolingbrook police following an incident at 4:40 p.m. Sunday at Hometown Pantry, 128 N. Bolingbrook Drive, according to Lt. Mike Rompa.

Velez was charged with attempted robbery and aggravated battery—both felonies. He was processed and transported to the Will County Adult Detention Facility, Rompa said.

Velez—and another unidentified male subject—targeted a victim exiting Hometown Pantry, Rompa said.

"Velez approached him from behind," Rompa said. "Velez and an unidentified male subject attempted to remove the victim's wallet from a pocket and the victim's phone. After the failed attempt by Valez to get the wallet, the subjects fled."

Rompa said officers located a group a the park district basketball courts a short time later.

"Valez was identified as the one who attempted to take the wallet," Rompa said. "No additional subject was identified."
